Žeželj Bridge Novi Sad Steel Arch Lifting
Project type
Critical Lift Plan
Location
Novi Sad , Republic of Serbia
Heavy steel arch segments for the Žeželj Bridge in Novi Sad, Serbia – one of Europe's longest cable-stayed bridges – were lifted and precisely positioned as part of the bridge reconstruction project.
Key challenges:
Handling extremely heavy and oversized steel arch segments (hundreds of tons each)
Achieving precise alignment and rotation in a high-wind riverside environment
Coordinating multiple cranes on a confined construction site with live rail traffic and river navigation below
Meeting strict tolerances for structural integrity and cable-stay integration
Equipment used:
Heavy crawler and mobile cranes ranging from 200 t to 500 t (440,000 lb to 1,102,000 lb)
Custom rigging systems, spreader beams, lifting lugs and tagline/tailing setups for controlled rotation and placement
All lifting operations were completed safely, on schedule, and with zero incidents, ensuring full compliance with safety standards and precise structural alignment for long-term bridge stability.
